What does a revolution sound like—and whose stories get remembered? Repast takes up these questions in Red, White, & Blue, a musical journey through the interconnected histories of the American, French, and Haitian Revolutions. Presented in honor of America’s 250th anniversary and the 2026 midterm elections, this thoughtfully curated program looks beyond familiar patriotic narratives to explore the ideals, sacrifices, and contradictions that have shaped the pursuit of freedom. With Groupmuse Nights Out discounted tickets, you can experience this compelling evening of music and history while reflecting on the ideals that continue to define the nation.
Organized around the symbolism of the American flag, the program unfolds in three parts: Red, for patriotism, sacrifice, and resistance; White, for liberation, abolitionism, and equality; and Blue, for justice, perseverance, and collective hope. Music and texts by composers and historical voices including William Billings, Francis Johnson, Belinda Sutton, and Julia Ward Howe bring these themes to life, performed by an exceptional ensemble featuring soprano Sonya Headlam, bass-baritone Jonathan Woody, violinist Shelby Yamin, and clarinetist Dominic Giardino, alongside a period-instrument ensemble. By weaving together music from different revolutionary traditions, Red, White, & Blue offers a timely reminder that the story of freedom is neither simple nor finished—and that its most meaningful chapters are still being written. 🇺🇸🎶
