Host

Kevin H. Superhost

Kev’s Place is excited to present a unique and soothing sound experience, sounds of autumn improv, featuring crown-heights based artist & musician brunson.

brunson's music, called healing soul music, lives at the intersection of improvisation, original compositions, and spoken word poetry. healing soul music is steeped in the traditions of gospel, jazz, soul & spoken word.

FYI: There will be a bake off between the host and the artist brunson. Bring your own baked good if you dare enter the fray. It’ll be fun…. And tasty

What's the music?

Franky Payne Electric Guitar

sounds of autumn improv brings together 4 long-time collaborators in a new configuration: brunson on keys & vocals, Franky Payne on electric guitar, Mel Chanté on spoken word & vocals, & N'kosi Wyands on congas. the group will explore sounds of healing soul music that borrow from the traditions of jazz, soul, and spoken word poetry. for newcomers, healing soul music has been described as 'a warm hug', 'just what i needed after a long day', 'deeply moving & spiritual'.

Where does this music come from?

i grew up in the church where music often is from the soul & of the soul. the tradition of soul music, jazz music, stretch music, and improvisation have many intersections in the gospel music environments of my roots.
