Left Coast Chamber Ensemble’s Mozart Clarinet Quintet pairs the elegance and expressive range of Mozart with music that explores the clarinet’s many personalities. The program opens with Thea Musgrave’s Threnody, followed by the world premiere of a new Clarinet Quintet by Jonathan Russell, written especially for Left Coast clarinetist Jerome Simas. The evening culminates in Mozart’s sublime Clarinet Quintet in A major, K. 581, a work celebrated for its warmth, lyrical beauty, and effortless interplay between clarinet and strings.

Featuring Jerome Simas alongside violinists Anna Presler and Liana Bérubé, violist Phyllis Kamrin, and cellist Tanya Tomkins, this is a chance to hear a cornerstone of the chamber music repertoire in conversation with new work written for today’s musicians.
