What happens when a string quartet doesn’t just interpret the musical tradition, but adds its own voice to it? The Dolphins Quartet joins violinist Owen Dalby and pianist Eric Zivian for an adventurous afternoon of chamber music at the Crowden School in Berkeley. At the heart of the program is Along the Open Road, an original work composed collaboratively by all four members of The Dolphins—a fresh take on what a string quartet can be, built through musical conversation and shared creativity.
The program also features Heitor Villa-Lobos’s String Quartet No. 1, which draws on Brazilian folk influences, and Ernest Chausson’s expansive Concerto for violin, piano, and string quartet, a richly colored work that gives the ensemble the sweep and drama of a much larger orchestra. Presented in partnership with Stanford’s Emerging String Quartet Program, this concert brings together inventive young musicians and acclaimed artists for a program that moves between tradition, collaboration, and discovery. Join us at Crowden School on Sunday, November 15 at 4 p.m. for an intimate afternoon of chamber music that looks both backward and forward. 🎻
