Host

On Father's Day I'm playing this program at Gore Place in Waltham, and I want to perform it more than once. I'm taking a detour from my usual repertoire, and turning to one of my other loves, music from the 17th century. Last year my husband gave me a virginal as a birthday gift, and I've begun to delve into works from The Fitzwilliam Virginal Book. This program will take a tour through England and Europe with music by Byrd, Blow, Farnaby, Picchi, Frescobaldi, Louis Couperin, Kerll, Sweelinck, and everyone's perennial favorite, Anonymous.

What's the music?

Sylvia Berry Fortepiano, Harpsichord

The New Sa-Hoo (Farnaby)

Watkins Ale (Anon)
Rowland (Byrd)
La Volta (Byrd)

Malle Sijmen (attributed to Sweelinck)
Ballo alla Polacha (Picchi)
Balletto e Ciaccona (Frescobaldi)

Onder een linde groen (Sweelinck)

Toccata ottava (Kerll)

Suite in C major (L. Couperin)

Mortlack's Ground (Blow)
