An all-Russian extravaganza featuring Prokofiev’s F minor Sonata and Nikolai Kapustin’s Sonata for Violin and Piano
What's the music?
This'll be the Berkeley premiere of the Kapustin sonata for violin and piano, which as far as I know hasn't been performed by another group in California. Also you'll get to hear a Prokofiev war sonata (op. 80), some exquisite Tchaikovsky and Scriabin's 4th piano sonata. Nato will also be performing the very cool fugue for solo violin by Schnittke, which amazingly he wrote as a student.
Sergei Prokofiev, Sonata in f minor for violin and piano, op. 80
Alexander Scriabin, Piano Sonata no. 4, op. 30
Alfred Schnittke, Fuga for solo violin
Peter Tchaikovsky, Meditation from Souvenir d'un Lieu Cher, op. 42
Nikolai Kapustin, Sonata for violin and piano, op. 70
