Trio Notturno Flute, Viola, Harp
Ken Allen Viola
Deirdre Viau Flute

DEBUSSY: Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp
TAKEMITSU: And then I knew 'twas wind
Andy VORES: Sleep.House.Field.

This concert features Debussy’s Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp, which was first performed over a century ago at the Longy Club in Boston. Also on the program are two pieces by composers who were inspired by Debussy. AND THEN I KNEW 'TWAS WIND, by Toru Takemitsu, refers to a poem by Emily Dickinson, while making musical allusions to Debussy’s trio. Andy Vores was commissioned to write a nocturne for Trio Notturno and the haunting result was SLEEP.HOUSE.FIELD. Vores uses a favorite recurring dream as his inspiration for the piece and bases its structure on Debussy’s sonata.
