Hi Groupmusers,
This warm weather is beautiful! Perfect weather to celebrate some good tunes and wine soon with y'all.
A quick update - violinist Carter had a last minute schedule conflict, but we'll be joined by the amazing I-Jung Huang (also a grad student at Juilliard). With this violinist change, we decided to present another piece instead of the Beethoven "Harp" quartet. Instead, we'll be playing Dvorak's "American" quartet, one of my favorite quartets. My dad had an Emerson Quartet CD of this piece in his car that was on repeat for almost four years.
I couldn't think of any Dvorak puns, but I looked him up. Turns out his wife cheated on him with a tuba player, and Dvorak got revenge by having the tuba play for just a few seconds at the beginning and at the end of his New World Symphony. The tuba plays nothing the rest of the time. Oh, and the whole symphony is around 40 minutes.
He's got quite a sense of humoresque. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBDmAxSFt6A)
See you all on Thursday! Thanks to Amit for putting all this together, and to Gabriella of Macari Wines!
Cheers,
Mosa
