Program

Mosa Tsay Cello

We are super stoked to present a program that is ROOTED in the music of plants. The April showers definitely brought May flower...pots! The evening in the garden will begin with some throwBACH to when cellists didn't play with percussionists.

PROGRAM:
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
....Suite No. 3 in C Major, BWV 1009
I. Prelude
II. Allemande
III. Courante
IV. Sarabande
V. Bourrees I & II
VI. Gigue

John Cage (1912-1992)
....Child of Tree (1975)
*featuring amplified cactus and various plants. Tony will be playing the spines of the cactus, and the sounds will be picked up by a contact microphone.

Kaija Saariaho (1952-)
...Petals for Cello

Caroline Shaw (1982-)
....Boris Kerner for Cello and Flowerpots (2012)

This is the second of two groupmuses in which we present the Caroline Shaw and John Cage pieces.

Thank you Laura for making your lovely place available for a wonderful evening. That was a great time!
Thanks so much Tony and Mosa for all the excellently chosen music and so knowledgeable about the music they played and the idea they share. I learned and enjoyed so much by listening.
Mosa, what a pleasure to hear you play and talk about the music with you. Hopefully I will get another chance to watch your perform.
