Hi music loving folks! Pianist Ian Scarfe and cellist Charles Akert will take us “behind the scenes” with a program of classical and romantic works. The duo will talk about the history and context of these composers and the works they will be performing, as well as sharing insights into the preparation and study that goes into preparing their musical programs. Scarfe and Akert will be starting a European tour later in May, so this concert will showcase their tour program, including popular Spanish folk songs, Schumann, and one of Ludwig van Beethoven's magnificent Cello Sonatas. Please join us for a late Sunday afternoon of thoughtful and inspiring music in a spacious mid-century home setting with decks and views of the bay. We invite you to bring appetizers and/or beverages (soft drinks, beer, wine) to share. Children are welcome if you trust they will want to sit quietly through a classical performance. We are looking forward to seeing you!

Program

Charles Akert Cello

Manuel De Falla - Popular Spanish Folksongs (arr. Cello and Piano)
Robert Schumann - 5 Pieces in Folk - Style
Ludwig van Beethoven - Sonata for Cello and Piano in C Major, Op. 102, No. 1

How long will this event last?

Mark Oliver, about 3 years ago

Hi everyone, someone asked how long this Groupmuse will go for, and I’m guessing somewhere around 90 minutes, possibly a little longer.

I would be most willing to attend this event, but I am attending another Groupmuse in
Kensington @ 2:30 PM same day! Put me down as tentative and I will race (carefully)
to your place on that Sunday. S. Compagno

Thank you to everyone for being a part of the fun! We are so glad to have such a nice home, with a beautiful piano, and a cloudy day to share some Beethoven and more with you all!
If anyone hasn't yet made a contribution (or wants to contribute more!) you can still do so at www.Groupmuse.com/pay
Charly and I appreciate all of it as we get ready for our summer adventures.
If anyone wants to be on our mailing list to receive occasional concert announcements, just send me a note at [email protected]

Your music and presence was way beyond wonderful! What a privilege and pleasure to meet you, learn about the pieces, and hear your astonishing playing! Thank you so very much!! And I did give extra! Love and blessings!!

Friends! I realize that Charly and I advertised that we would play Manuel De Falla's "Spanish Folksongs" and that we never followed through on this!
However - you have a chance to hear me and Charly next week with ANOTHER CELLIST James Jaffe - there you can hear these De Falla songs, and some incredible duos for two cellos. That will be on Saturday the 11th, at an incredible art space in San Francisco... the groupmuse link is: https://www.groupmuse.com/events/8056-ginormous-groupmuse-wild-exotic-classical-contemporary
