Memorial Day is all about honoring those who have passed in the process of serving others. Building off of this ritual, we've put together a themed permablitz for the Sunday & Monday of Memorial Day weekend.

This permablitz is a little bit different: we'll be working on the land in silence, and inviting all to bring in memories to share of those who have passed; especially those who were committed to serving others. Silence can be a powerful tool for connecting with the land and our ancestors, and is a common practice used to honor those who have passed on from this world. Working on the Earth in silence is an incredible way to get in touch with your body, your thoughts, your emotions, and to be present for her wisdom. Sometimes she speaks so softly you won't hear her if you don't turn off your chatterbox.

However, it wouldn't be a permablitz without some joy and volume, so we are also presenting an extra-special concert the evening before the work day. One of the founding fore-fathers of Groupmuse (and one of the most talented musicians we've ever known), a Malagasy-French pianist named Yannick Rafalimanana, is coming through Claymont with his brilliant violinist of a partner named Sky. They're in from Berlin and they're going to make some breathtaking noise in the Mansion on Sunday evening, the 26th.

The next day, we'll wake up to an easy morning with group meditation and do some activities to get in the zone as we build up to our work session on the land in silence. We'll be focusing the work in the Barn Gardens. Once we're done working, we'll head back up to the Mansion for a BBQ cookout in classic Memorial Day fashion in the late afternoon, and wrap it all up with a group clean-up and closing circle.

Here's the schedule:

Sunday, May 26

  • Folks arrive around 7 pm on Sunday to settle & we'll gather for the groupmuse in the Mansion
  • After the music, we'll have an opening circle + campfire + music + dancing
  • Sleepover in the Mansion (must bring your own sheets) or camp outside

Monday, May 27

+ Wake up to a meditation and relaxing morning
+ Head to the Barn Gardens to do conscious labor on the land in silence
+ Memorial Day BBQ back at the Mansion!
+ Closing circle & clean-up

Join us to get our bodies moving on the land, connect deeply with the wonderful folks who show up for these intimate weekends, celebrate art and life through the gifts of some supremely talented musicians, and presence those who have passed with sacred silence.
