-Legacy of the Master-

Looming large over music history, Bach’s six cello suites have had an indelible impact on the development of the cello as an expressive solo instrument, inspiring many other composers to write works of their own for the instrument. Come and explore the relationship between Bach’s beloved first suite with one of its spiritual descendants by Benjamin Britten!

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
….. SUITE NO. 1 FOR SOLO CELLO (1717-1723)
i. Prelude
ii. Allemande
iii. Courante
iv. Minuet I & II
v. Sarabande
vi. Gigue

Benjamin Britten (1913-1976)
….. SUITE NO. 1 FOR SOLO CELLO, OP. 72 (1964)
....Canto primo
i. Fuga
ii. Lamento
....Canto secondo
iii. Serenata
iv. Marcia
....Canto terzo
v. Bordone
vi. Moto perpetuo e Canto quarto

Thank you all again so much for a wonderful afternoon yesterday! I apologize that I had to slip out so fast (got to the wedding just in time!) and hope that I can see you all again at another GroupMuse soon! Feel free to get it touch if you have any comments or questions from yesterday, or thoughts for the future!

The Collins's r terrific hosts in every way!
Philip is 1 of the top musicians anywhere. In addition, he is a great showman (I mean that in the best way). His explanations of the music, without talking down, really add a level of lasting appreciation of the compositions. I hope I am not embarrassing u, Philip! Please update your website for schedule of future shows.
