Austrian composer and pianist Sigismund Neukomm studied with Josef Haydn and was the composer and teacher to the Royal Portuguese Family in Rio de Janeiro from 1815-21 .I have chosen his works because for the last 50 years I,a native NYork oboist and composer,identify with Neukomm and have resided in Rio de JANEIRO performinb in its major orchestras .Other works on the program would be by Brazilian composers Francisco Mignone, Edmundo VILLANI (if a piano is available), Eduardo Camenietzki ,Lenir Siquira .Ian Davidson (a frequent visitor to Brazil) and myself. IMPORTANT NOTE: we can only offer the program on 29 October 2024 when we all expect to be in nyc. the NYKammermusiker Ilonna Pederson, director (212-749-2207) will also participate.


Historical context

The Emperor of brazil ,D,Pedro II studied with Sigismund Neukomm and played almost all the instruments including the bassoon paving the musical future for double reed music in Brazil. We have performed this program in Vienna,Bangkok , all over Brazil and last April in London
