Full program notes

This hidden gem of a church in the Mission is the warm intimate setting for our program. We will present autumnal poems by American poets Sara Teasdale, Robert Frost and Carl Sandburg set by talented and (very) local composer Patricia Wallinga and the powerful and virtuosic Cello Sonata by Edvard Grieg. To tie it all together, we will wrap you in the warmth of Vocalise for voice, cello and piano by Andre Previn. We hope to grant you the opportunity to meditate and reflect on the past season and ready yourself for the next.

Historical context

The first set is 21st century American Art Song with settings of 20th century American poets. The cello sonata was written in the 19th century. The Previn piece is a chamber trio written in 1995.
