About

Colombian pianist César Cañón is equally committed to instrumental chamber music as he is with the art song and operatic repertoire. Along with his activity as a recital player, he devotes his time to vocal coaching and conducting. He has received prizes both as a soloist and as an accompanist for national music competitions in his home country. His operatic career has taken him to festivals in Canada, Brazil and Italy. During the 2013-14 season he was guest artist at the Youth Philharmonic of Colombia and he has been a fellowship Opera coach for the Aspen Opera Theatre Center for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Cañón holds a Bachelor’s in Piano Performance from Universidad Nacional de Colombia and a Master of Music in Collaborative Piano from the University of Michigan, where he is currently a doctoral student of legendary accompanist and teacher, Martin Katz. He was recently appointed as Assistant Conductor for the Ann Arbor Camerata.
