Violinist Yuri Namkung has been invited as soloist, chamber musician, and teacher throughout Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, and Panama since 2009. Recently having returned to New York City, she performs with new music groups Talea, Mimesis, NUNC, and Lost Dog Ensembles, and frequently performs with members of the Orchestra of St Luke’s and at the Wellesley Composers Conference.
Born in Seattle, Washington, she made her solo debut at the age of nine with the Northwest Chamber Orchestra and at eleven with the Seattle Symphony. She studied with Dorothy DeLay at Juilliard Pre-College and after making her debut with the Tonhalle-Orchestra Zurich conducted by David Zinman, attended Columbia University and the Juilliard School. While in the Graduate Diploma Program at the New England Conservatory, she met UNESCO and Unicef Artist for Peace jazz pianist Danilo Perez who has kept Yuri close by his side for the past six years, enlisting her to create a Classical Music Program (2010-2014) as part of the Panama Jazz Festival. In June of 2016, Festival de Música Nueva makes its debut in Panama, a festival sponsored by Fundacion Danilo Perez and created and directed by Yuri.
