About

Arlen Hlusko, Canadian cellist, has performed as soloist and chamber musician across North America, Asia, and Europe. She has appeared as soloist with many of Canada’s foremost orchestras, including the National Arts Center Orchestra and Calgary Philharmonic, and has been a featured performer on WHYY. An avid chamber musician, she has collaborated with Donald Weilerstein, Ida Kavafian, and members of the Guarneri, Orion, and Tokyo String Quartets, among others. She has also appeared at festivals, including Angel Fire, Perlman’s Workshop, and the Taos School of Music; and has performed as principal cellist of several ensembles, including the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and New York String Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Committed to using her music to serve her community, Arlen served as a 2015-16 ArtistYear fellow, and won a 2016 Tarisio Trust Grant to present her own series beginning October 2016, Philadelphia Performances for Autism.

Arlen is currently based in Philadelphia, and also regularly works in New York City, where she serves as a teaching artist apprentice with the New York Philharmonic and performs with various ensembles. I'm happy to play anything from solo cello (ie. Bach, Brey, Cassado, Crumb, Ligeti, Tsintsadze, arrangements of Frank Sinatra and Beatles, etc), to duos (cello/piano, cello/harp, cello/violin, etc), piano or string trio, string quartet, and beyond!
