Send Mak a messageCheers everyone! Here's a few things about my musical journey so far as taken from my bio:
Some reviews:
NY Times: “imaginative, gifted, and expressive”
Washington Post: “guitarist to keep an eye on”
LA Times: “inspiring addition to the contemporary music landscape in Los Angeles”
In words:
My repertoire extends in a range of genres including avant-garde, film music, and popular stylings, while still retaining great classics of the instrument. My CD release on Marquis Records entitled Cinema Verismo focuses specifically on cinema music of the last few decades, mixing classical works used in films with transcriptions of cinematic scores. Some of the next recording projects include solo recordings on Grammy Award-winning labels MicroFest Records and Naxos, as well as collaborative projects with Cellist Robert DeMaine (LA Philharmonic) and Anderson Alden.
I've worked closely with The Da Camera Society of Los Angeles as a Young Artist in Residence for a while, where I co-foundet DC8, Da Camera’s contemporary music ensemble and have been fortunate to work with many fabulous collaborators including Martin Chalifour (Concertmaster, LA Phil), Jay Campbell, Joshua Roman, The Assad Brothers, Ashley Bathgate (Bang on a Can All-Stars), and John Sant’Ambrogio (St. Louis Symphony Orchestra) etc.
I was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, studied guitar in Zagreb with the revered Ante Cagalj at the Elly Basic Conservatory of Music and obtained my Bachelor’s Degree with Alvaro Pierri at the University for Music and Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria. Also, just finished my Doctoral Degree at the USC Thornton School of Music as a student of William Kanengiser, Scott Tennant of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and Brian Head. I currently hold a faculty position at Mount St. Mary’s University in Los Angeles, and artistic directorship of Zagreb Guitar Festival.
When I don't do music, I help fundraise for Bosnian children with financial difficulties.
