Guitarist, David Gonzales, discovered his musical ambitions in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since 2009, he has resided in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he shares his love of music as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher.
David has received numerous accolades as a soloist, winning first prize in the Society of American Musicians competition. He has been featured by the Chicago and Ventura County Classical Guitar Societies, and has been a guest artist in Albuquerque, Denver, and California public schools.
An avid proponent of new music, David has collaborated with many composers to expand the repertoire for his instrument. As co-founder of Ignition Duo, a new music electric guitar duo, he has commissioned and premiered over a dozen pieces. In 2015, the duo recorded their debut album Ablaze Amidst the Horns.
In early 2017, David joined the San Francisco Guitar Quartet as its newest member. The quartet has been performing locally and internationally for years, playing a wide array of music, from classical to contemporary composers.
As an educator, David has worked extensively with student guitar ensembles. He has worked as a performing arts intern at the Albuquerque Academy High School, a visiting teaching artist at the Denver School of the Arts, and a guitar teacher for the Music Matters Program, an organization that provides music education to elementary schools in Solano County, California.
David holds a Master's degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Sergio Assad. He also holds a Bachelor's degree from Northwestern University, where he earned department honors in guitar and a second major art history.
