About
I've developed a robust classical music organization in Dallas-Ft Worth. Dressed down, not dumbed down has been the motto for organization, Open Classical since 2011. And for the next SIX weeks, we are hitting the road across the country for a 30+city tour doing what we do best – presenting inventive, inexpensive and highly energized classical music in social settings – but most importantly, we are beginning the process for creating a national touring route for classical musicians and new composers similar to the pop music industry. The concept already proven in DFW, includes a bottom-up, stair-stepping system of opportunity that places power with classical musicians and allows them to connect with the public…and vice versa.
Introducing myself, Open Classical founder and director Mark Landson along with co-host and pianist Thiago Nascimento have charmed and impressed thousands of fans through innovative classical open mics, grass-roots events in coffee shops, surprise pop-up performances, chamber music in wine bars, classical music variety shows for large park events, and professional costumed staged productions for the past four years providing high value entertainment for fans and paid performing opportunities for local classical musicians. Now surpassing 100 events per year in Dallas-Ft Worth, the organization is ready to expand into other markets. To showcase the concept, the two classical music innovators have packed a van and taking along my newly re-launched piano quintet Neo Camerata to generate awareness of the organization and network with local musicians, fans, and other similar groups like Classical Revolution and Group Muse . My lifetime commitment to classical music combined with entrepreneurial drive is at the core of Open Classical and I believe the concept can ultimately change the conversation in the industry - what it is to be a classical musician, how classical music is performed (at least sometimes), and what the future of classical music can be.
Music
We perform a variety of chamber music and certainly play the warhorses, but are interested in bringing my new compositions to the party. Here is a sample of my music. (link below)
Neo Camerata debuted in 2004 and shared the bill with pop artists, rock bands, opera singers, symphony orchestras, and ballet companies. We performed in places as diverse as Washington’s Kennedy Center, New York’s Cutting Room, and the Cannes Film Festival. During the tour, we will be performing my original riveting music which combines the emotion and beauty of classical, the excitement and energy of pop, and the awe-inspiring technique of virtuoso musicians
