About

Duo Vela was formed in 2014 and is comprised of Australian guitarist Daniel Nistico and American flutist Marla Nistico. Though based in the United States, Duo Vela has taken their exciting programs to venues across the world. Most recently from May-August 2016, Duo Vela completed a 26 concert tour of China, Australia, and New Zealand. In the US, they have performed concerts in upstate New York, Washington D.C., and Virginia. This past August, Duo Vela had the pleasure of performing at the National Flute Association's annual convention in San Diego, CA.

Marla MM and Daniel DMA (abd) met in 2013 while studying at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Their mutual love of chamber music drew them together and they were eventually married in 2015. As an ensemble, they seek to find both substantial and highly engaging works for the flute and guitar. This involves ample research, commissioning new works, and sometimes transcribing and giving life to old pieces. Their first commission will be by USA composer, John Anthony Lennon in 2017-2018.
