Deborah Katz

About
Hi, my name is Deborah and I have been playing the violin since I was 5 years old. I studied at Indiana University with Henryk Kowalski and New England Conservatory where I studied with Malcolm Lowe, the concertmaster of the Boston Symphony. I then moved to San Francisco and started playing contemporary chamber music working with renowned composers and musicians from the San Francisco Bay Area such as Gabriela Lena Frank, Brian Henderson, Nathan Bates, Alex Kelly and David Ryther. In 2011 I moved to Mexico to play with the Yucatan Symphony until 2015. While there, I was violist as part of a baroque music concert series, Barroco Escarlata and started a Classical Revolution chapter, bringing chamber music to bars and cafes, carried over from my San Francisco days. After an invitation to move to Greece with my partner, I have spent the last two years freelancing and traveling and am looking forward to living in the Washington, DC area. When not playing violin I love finding travel deals that connect me to people and lands, enjoy being a Flaming Lotus Girl building large steel sculptures that shoot fire for Burningman in the desert, and dressing up in ridiculous costumes.
