Traditional Repertoire
This program features all compositions by female composers and arrangers. Our program starts with an adaptation of Joseph Haydn's D minor String quartet , Op. 42 for Oboe quartet, by Peggy Pearson, a well renowned oboist in the Boston Area. Secondly, Bay Area composer Julie Barwick’s Shroud was written in 2015 for string trio, the image of weaving, or sewing, suggests an abundance of musical material and each instrument in the string trio acts as a different thread, creating an intricate, beautiful, but solemn, musical fabric. Our third work is by composer and oboist Marilyn Zupnik who began writing music for the oboe in 2007, and her compositions include Four Impressions for Solo Oboe, two quartets for oboe and string trio, and a Duo for Oboe and Cello. Lastly, In the slow tango style, Devree Lewis’ Luz de agosto is adapted from Argentinian Emmanuel Trifilio's piece for solo bandoneon.
