About

I grew up in New York and have moved around a bit for my degrees and work. My parents are still there and although I live in D.C, I am all over the eastern seaboard performing! I co-founded an artist run, non-profit chamber ensemble and we try to perform in different subsets whenever we can. Our group is called What Is Noise and we try to use music to build a community. We play works by living composers and collaborate with them on the process and during the learning/performing period as well. Because our instrumentation is so varied, we can do so much with different subsets of the group! Justin, our cellist and I, live close so we do these as much as we can. When we're lucky, we can bring in our Boston-based pianist as well!

Music

I am classically trained clarinetist, but an avid new music explorer as well. I have studied orchestral repertoire my entire life and worked with musicians from the Chicago Symphony and New York Philharmonic. While working on my doctorate I really began to explore contemporary music as well as world music. I studied in Armenia for a bit and wrote my dissertation on Armenian folk and contemporary clarinet music. As you can see, my interests are varied and never ending! I do my best to share all of these different interests with my colleagues and with audiences as well... but as you can tell, sometimes they have to reign me in!
