About

Wavelength Winds is a Maryland-based wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, french horn) that creates innovative projects, commissions new music, and engages in collaborations that put classical music in a culturally relevant context. The group collaborates with local DC hip-hop/rap artist Konshens the MC in an ongoing project called “Classically Dope.” This fusion of hip-hop/rap and classical music bridges the gap between these two performing worlds, bringing communities together in a never-before-heard fashion. Most recently the Classically Dope collaboration opened for Yo-Yo Ma and Esperanza Spalding at an outreach concert at Anacostia High School and performed at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts on the Voices of Change spoken word showcase. The group has also been featured by the DC Office of Cable Television, Film, Music & Entertainment, Emancipation Day at Freedom Plaza, Circa Media, One Love Massive, and NextNOW Fest. Music

We perform all sorts of music from the wind quintet repertoire including works by Kludhardt, Blumer, Rameau, Fazil Say, Nielsen, Hindemith, and Tomasi. In addition, we perform our "Classically Dope" set, including original compositions from rapper and wind quintet. This set also features more hip-hop based songs.
