About

Andy grew up singing and acting and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance at the University of Nebraska under Dr. Scott Andersen. He studied with Prof. Abbie Conant and Mike Svoboda in Trossingen, Germany, performing in orchestras and chamber ensembles across Europe and North America before landing in Oakland at Mills College in 2006 to earn a Master of Arts in free improvisation under Pauline Oliveros, Fred Frith, Zeena Parkins, Joelle Leandre, and Roscoe Mitchell. He is a member of the Mills Performance Faculty, the East Bay Brass Band, and Tamalpais Brass Quintet. He enjoys telling trombone tales for families in libraries and schools. He toured with harpist Joanna Newsom and with the Banana Bag and Bodice theater company, and recorded with Roscoe Mitchell.
