About

Hi, I’m Adam Young. I just graduated from Juilliard as the first Violist da gamba to audition, be accepted and enroll and I was the first American to make it to the finals of the international Bach/Abel Viola da Gamba competition. I have cofounded groups such as Mixolydia and Cello Street Quartet, an ensemble that won the American Music Abroad award and federally state funded tour to East Europe and Russia. Aside from performing frequently on historical bass instruments (violone, lirone, baroque cello) I work as a pianist for New York City ballet and accompany classes at Steps on Broadway and numerous other dance companies in New York City. My passion for music is almost matched by my passion for pottery. I find that approaching art from every medium is the most beneficial way to understand what it is that makes us drawn to something we know so little about. I search for historical basis to inform my every musical decision.
