Ladies' Quintessential Quintet

Woodwind Quintet

About

As a stunning example of talent and artistry, the Ladies’ Quintessential Quintet embodies what it means to be a female musician in the modern landscape of classical music. Each a powerhouse in their own right, together they represent college professors, orchestral musicians, freelancers, private instructors, collaborative chamber artists, and full-time working musicians. The mission is to uplift and support each other as women and musicians, and seek out other women in music to lift and support through performance.

Historically, they come together from Utah, Idaho, and Washington for several projects each year. For ‘20-'21, the season has gone virtual with weekly music releases and bi-monthly livestreams featuring concert length music video premieres. Though the ladies look forward to when they can perform live again, regularly releasing videos and recordings will be a staple of how they operate going forward.

Music

LQQ seeks out classical music for woodwind quintet written by female and BIPOC composers. We perform new works, works of a more obscure nature that we discover and feel lack the exposure they merit, and works that we actively commission. Our current repertoire features works by Alyssa Morris, Catharine Neville, Amy Beach, Judith Bailey, Mary Watkins, and Louise Ferrenc. We also play the masters, and have Bach and Beethoven on our most recent concert.
