About
Dr. Jorge Huelga is a twenty seven-year old graduate in viola performance from Stony Brook University, where he held the viola studio Teaching Assistantship position and had the privilege to be part of the first class of the Emerson String Quartet Institute. Granted Full Scholarship for hi doctoral degree, Huelga received exquisite education as soloist and chamber musician from internationally renowned violists Lawrence Dutton (Emerson String Quartet), Matthew Lipman, and Nicholas Cords (Silk Road Ensemble).
As a composer, Huelga's music has been described to contain “extremely beautiful melodies and a colorful and expansive harmonic language”, and been premiered in different venues both in New York (such as DiMenna Center for the Arts) and Spain (Centro Cultural Niemeyer). Huelga has also been recipient of sponsorship offers from record labels ABLAZE records and Orpheus Classical for recording projects as performer and composer.
Music
Mostly classical music. Deep knowledge of most repertoire for viola, including Hindemith, Shostakovich, Bowen, Clarke, and Brahms sonatas. Also usual performer with string quartet, piano quartet, and piano quintet, knowing much of the repertoire for those ensembles (Beethoven, Brahms, Shostakovich, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Debussy, Ravel, Chausson...).
I also perform and compose music in other styles, mainly pop-rock, and soul.
