About

Passionate about contemporary music, violinist Raina Arnett has collaborated with composers such as Kaija Saariaho, Julia Wolfe, and George Lewis, and has performed chamber music with members of the JACK Quartet, Ensemble Modern, Alarm Will Sound, Bang on a Can All-Stars, and Eighth Blackbird. She is also a founder of the contemporary trio the Glass Clouds Ensemble, which cultivates partnerships between composers and local environmental organizations. This season, Raina has performed with Ensemble Signal at Carnegie Hall, the Juilliard Orchestra at Alice Tully Hall, the Southbank Sinfonia at Cadogan Hall, and the Glass Clouds Ensemble at Yellow Barn. Recent festival appearances include the Grafenegg Festival (Austria), Creative Dialogues XI (Finland), London Jazz Festival (UK), and Bang on a Can LOUD Weekend. Raina is a recent MM graduate of the Juilliard School where she studied under Lewis Kaplan as his TA. Her other mentors include Leila Josefowicz, Renee Jolles, and Brad Lubman.

Music

I like to play pretty much anything and everything, but I have a particular love of contemporary classical music — I really enjoy the variety this repertoire presents and the way it asks me to play the violin in a different way all the time.
