When we talk about grief - the feeling of deep sorrow - we usually mean it in the context of a loss. This project explores the absence that can get us to grief - "a state or condition in which something is expected, wanted, or looked for is not present or does not exist."

In pushing forward, we are always readjusting. We hope for the future while at the same time reacting to the outcomes of what we have planned. We are constantly creating - careers, dreams, families - while the world remakes what we have given to it simultaneously. It can be said that we are in a constant state of grieving.

The Grieving Place is dedicated to holding space for healing and catharsis through the musical expression of grief and loss. TGP hopes to foster understanding and empathy for those who have experienced loss and to provide a platform for artists to share their stories and experiences through the universal language of music. Through this project, TGP wishes to promote a sense of connection and belonging for all who have been touched by grief and loss.

From a young age, we are socialized to interact with our community based on the traditions inherited from our community. We are taught how to grieve, when, and what loss is appropriate to mourn. TGP will use the audio-visual medium as a way for audiences to experience and reflect on their own life experiences. The hope is to use this medium to conceptualize and represent the gestalt - the vantage part that goes beyond the sum of its parts - of the societal and personal impact of grief.
