Welcome to another livestream Groupmuse featuring solo cello works and a duet with my wife Chelsea on oboe! I'm excited to bring you one of my favorite works, Kodaly's fantastic Sonata for Solo Cello. This piece transforms the cello and takes the listener to another land, thanks to Kodaly's influence of Hungarian and Romanian folk music.
What's the music?
Zoltán Kodály, Sonata in B minor for Solo Cello, op. 8 (1915)
I. Allegro maestoso ma appassionato
II. Adagio con gran espressione
III. Allegro molto vivace.
J. S. Bach, 2-Part Inventions (1723)
Arranged for Oboe and Cello (Chelsea Russell, oboe)
- Invention no. 1
- Invention no. 13
- Invention no. 12
Mark Summer, "Julie-O" (1988)
