Feel the wild abandon of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony—“the apotheosis of the dance itself,” Wagner called it. It fairly whirls with exuberance and energy when H+H musicians perform it with more than 200 years of cobwebs swept off the score. Václav Luks, artistic director of Prague’s Collegium 1704, pairs it with the H+H premiere of Voříšek’s only symphony. Composed about a decade later, echoes of Beethoven and Schubert—even a foretaste of early Romanticism—make it a perfect companion piece. Plus, the spirited introduction to an operatic love triangle by the prodigiously gifted Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges.

What's the music?

Václav Luks Conductor
Handel

Bologne: Overture to L’amant Anonyme
Voříšek: Symphony in D Major
Beethoven: Symphony No. 7
