This is a groupmuse

A live concert in a living room, backyard, or another intimate space. They're casual and friendly, hosted by community members.

Host

A brief history of Western Civilization, shall we?

1720 - Bach completes his titanic Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin, because, for some reason, he decided he should write "on one stave, for a small instrument... a whole world of the deepest thoughts and most powerful feelings."*

2014 - Brooklyn Rider's spectacular violinist, Johnny Gandelsman plays from this shatteringly great collection at a groupmuse in The Greene Space at WQXR - one of the most awesome and intimate classical music venues in NYC, and, by extension, the inner solar system.

In the intervening 294 years, there were, like, some revolutions, five awesome Die Hard movies, someone left their cellphone in a cab, and other random stuff happened for sure, but I think we've hit upon the really important things.

For those of us who don't want to miss one of the two things that have happened in Western History:

-It's true: On December 11th, The Greene Space at WQXR is hosting a groupmuse and that's incredibly exciting.
-It's also true: Johnny Gandelsman of Brooklyn Rider is going to be playing.
-It ISN'T true: The Die Hard movies were not all awesome. 3 was a nightmare.

Now, the Greene Space isn't a living room, but they're really going all out to make it cozy and homey and intimate for us because they are particularly rad over there at WQXR.

In case you haven't heard, WQXR 105.9 FM is the classical music radio station in NYC (inner solar system?) and if you don't remember what the radio is, they're online too at http://www.wqxr.org/ !

Because it's not a standard groupmuse, the alcohol policy is going to be a bit different. This one isn't BYOB, but they'll be selling beers for $5 each in the space. The last time you could get a $5 beer on Manhattan was before the Civil War.

This is honestly an incredible joy and privilege, and it's with great pride the Groupmuse shares it with its community.
