This is a Groupmuse Night Out

Explore the wider world of music outside Groupmuse with exclusive discounts to local concerts.

The exceptionally gifted Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra have put together a program to remember, and they welcome Groupmuse community members back for a chance to witness their prodigious skills for a supremely discounted rate!

The concert will feature Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra, a piece written written by a composer already in the throes of the leukemia that was to claim his life. Not even the faintest trace of what the exceptionally courageous and self-reliant composer was suffering is detectable in the music. It was written as a celebration of, and a torture test for, one of the world’s greatest orchestras – the Boston Symphony, who premiered this piece originally back in 1944. Bartók could not, in his wildest dreams, have imagined that it would one day be played by a youth orchestra!

The Tchaikovsky Fifth Symphony is, of course, a great favorite with audiences, and, securely tucked into the category of “romantic blockbuster,” is known to just about everybody. It is also, if truth be told, one of the most hackneyed pieces in the entire repertory. But Mr. Zander's take on the piece is bracing and fresh. He has performed it many times, in many parts of the world, and always audiences are stirred by the experience of having the familiar made new again.

More about this program can be found on the BPYO website.

Groupmuse ticket buyers are directed to pick up their tickets at the VIP/Group table in the Symphony Hall lobby near the box office. Tickets are by assigned seating in the Groupmuse ticket section. Those with ADA seating requirements are asked to email [email protected] ahead of time so that we can contact BPYO to set aside the correct seats.
