This is a groupmuse

Host

Ann G. (she/her)

Welcome returning and new Groupmuse guests to our Glen Park home! We are so pleased to host for the first time at Groupmuse, an amazing Colombian guitarist Alejo Cordero - a new friend of ours along with his wife Julieth. We have heard Alejo perform twice (he is pictured playing for my birthday dinner guests last November), followed by much excitement and audience applause. His technical mastery of his specialty guitar (the bandola llanera) and his Latin musicality is evident, plus he is clearly in love with the joropo style in which he specializes in concert performances, and also teaches (he also plays all forms of Latin and classical guitar as well). Joropo is the national music of Venezuela and also popular in the eastern plains of Colombia where live the llaneros (plainsmen similar to the Argentine gaucho). There is a gobsmacking folk dance to the genre (see at one minute in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Un7ofLUCOCk, and professional dancers at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZntuG_7xOk ). Often adorable young children perform it (see, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRP19qEfEQI). We hope you enjoy this most personable young Maestro of joropo as he describes his background and tells us a bit about a variety of Latin pieces he will play (final program to be announced). We bet you will be unable to keep from tapping your feet - if not jumping up to dance a bit! Plan to arrive from 7 pm to 7:30 pm for light refreshments (BYOB with your name on bottle); the performance begins at 7:30 pm. Chairs available for everyone with advance reservation. Great access to Glen Park BART stop (2 blocks away), the J Church or Muni 36, 43, or 44 all near the BART stop, and with fairly easy parking within a block or two. We have three senior cats who will be confined upstairs and in advance we will suitably clean the performance area and refreshment serving space.
