Bach to Bach: Cello Duets

Please join us for a cozy evening of cello duets, celebrating the beloved works of J.S. Bach.

J.S. Bach - Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, BWV 1007

Bach's first cello suite, composed around 1720, is one of the most known and cherished works in the cello repertoire. Its six movements showcase the cello's versatility, from the iconic, rolling Prélude to the lively Gigue.

J.S. Bach - Cello Suite No. 6 in D Major, BWV 1012

The last of Bach's cello suites, No. 6 in D Major, was originally written for a five-string instrument. It is known for its technical challenges and joyous character.

J.S. Bach (arr. for cello duo by Johanne Perron and Claudio Jaffe) - Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004

Originally composed for solo violin, the Chaconne is considered one of Bach's greatest achievements. This arrangement for two cellos brings new depth to the piece, allowing for a fuller realization of its harmonic structure while maintaining the emotional intensity of the original.

Georges Bizet (arr. for cello duo) - Habanera from "Carmen"

This famous aria from Bizet's opera "Carmen" takes on a new character in this arrangement for two cellos. The alluring melody and Latin rhythms are perfectly suited to the cello's rich tone, creating a captivating dialogue between the two instruments.

Performed by Tamar Sagiv and Sara Gabalawi, cellists
