CENTURIES OF SOUND celebrates the second concert of its fifth season by bringing back MADS TOLLING - a GRAMMY-WINNING violinist who effortlessly takes us from classical masterpieces, to folksy Scanadavian tunes, to old-time American jazz, to his own compositions!
Concerts are held in the ballroom of the Century Club of California, an early 20th century historic woman’s club that survived the earthquake and fire of 1906 and is still thriving.
This time we take a journey from GRIEG TO GERSHWIN, starting with classical music inspired by popular folk tunes, including the Norwegian Edvard Grieg, the Czech Antonin Dvořak, and the Viennese Fritz Kreisler. Tolling and Scarfe then lead us into the 20th century, with jazz favorites from the Great American Songbook, original compositions, and of course works by the great master of bridging musical genres, George Gershwin.
🥂 Drinks for intermission!
