🎻 A world premiere, a rediscovered American voice, and one of the grandest symphonies in the Romantic repertoire! The New York Philharmonic welcomes conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali for a program that spans the expressive breadth of the orchestra. Florence Price’s Dances in the Canebrakes opens with its irresistible blend of syncopated rhythms and African American musical influences, followed by a very special occasion: the World Premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts’s Bassoon Concerto, featuring NY Phil Principal Bassoon Judith LeClair. Then, Schubert’s monumental Symphony No. 9, “The Great,” takes center stage—a sweeping musical journey filled with soaring melodies, buoyant rhythms, dramatic contrasts, and an almost orchestral sense of boundless possibility.
From Price’s vibrant dance-inspired miniatures to a brand-new concerto and Schubert’s magnificent symphonic finale, this is a program full of discovery, virtuosity, and sheer orchestral exhilaration. Experience it November 25–December 1 at Wu Tsai Theater, David Geffen Hall, with Groupmuse Nights Out offering specially discounted tickets! ✨
