The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the crown jewels of this great city, and, by extension, this whole country. Many don't know, however, that buried deep within its celebrated halls is a glorious performance venue, and the lovely folks at the Met want us in there, to share a evening of music magic, courtesy of the PUBLIQuartet - the Met's quartet-in-residence. What they're cooking up for us is hard to describe, so I'll leave it to them:

'What does "American music" really mean? PUBLIQuartet leads a conductorless orchestra in collaboration with the Mannes School of Music, reworking American string quartet pieces for chamber orchestra and using full ensemble improvisation to question the definition and image of "American" music. Featured on this concert are works by living composers, including New Yorker Jessie Montgomery's daring "Banner," based on the national anthems of America's immigrants and indigenous peoples. It's Jimi Hendrix meets Bartók!'

These tickets normally start at $40, but, because we're groupmuse, we've got a whole stack of them for $25! So bring a friend, and blow your mind!

The music starts at 7pm, but we encourage you to show up as much as an hour early, enjoy a glass of wine, and hobnob with other Groupmusers and culture-lovers.

IMPORTANT LOGISTICAL INFORMATION
- Enter at the ground level entrance at 83rd Street and Fifth Avenue, NOT the main entrance - it won't be open.
- Pick up your tickets at the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium. It opens at 6pm - feel free to come early and get a glass of wine.
- The performance will be about 90 minutes long, getting out at around 8:35.

For those of us with more than one ticket, do we need to enter at the same time?

I had a really good time. I didn't expect such a nice experience. PubliQuartet's work and improv was really interesting!
