One hundred and seventy seven years ago, Robert Schumann, a titan of German Romanticism, wrote a song cycle based on the poetry of Heinrich Heine called Dichterliebe (A Poet's Love). It has gone on to become one of the most celebrated expressions of the spirit of 19th century Europe.
So anyways, the revered singer-pianist-classical-composer-musical-theatre savant Gabriel Kahane comes along and says, "Ya know what, this song-cycle thing is pretty cool" and promptly writes "Craigslistlieder" (Craigslist songs) - music set to ads he found on Craigslist.
And now, thanks to our wonderful friends at San Francisco Performances, our beloved community can see both, together, at SFJazz on March 5th performed by Gabriel Kahane himself - of whom the New Yorker said “his music absorbs everything from nineteen-twenties neoclassicism to blue-grass and modern indie pop…His greatest asset is his sonorous, mesmerizing baritone; he brings to mind Sinatra in his wee-small-hours mood.”
SFP has generously given Groupmuse a stack of heavily discounted tickets just because they love us and they want us there! What is normally $25 is $15 for us - and $10 for Supermusers - so bring some friends along!
This'll be out there and totally unmissable.
Have a great Night Out!
