6 months ago, Opera Parallèle brought groupmuse into a rehearsal for a very special Night Out. We sat on the floor with bottles of wine-a-plenty, saw an operatic creation take shape before our eyes, and asked the many questions that so beautiful and bizarre a phenomenon as an opera is likely to bring about.

Well good news: Opera Parallele wants us back for another open rehearsal Night Out!

They’re preparing for the performance of the new opera Le Petit Prince by Rachel Portman and they want to show us how that’s done. Last time, a couple folks commented that though the rehearsal was lovely, there wasn’t enough actual music involved, and so this time, they’ve definitely beefed up that part of it.

What’s more, they’ve introduced a whole new dimension: Adult coloring! BYOArt Supplies, but they'll have paper-a-plenty and they want our imaginations to roam free.

Tickets are $20 (and $15 for supermusers), and attendees will get 20% off tickets to the actual show, which'll be happening in December.

Some notes from Opera Parallèle about the upcoming production:

Composer Rachel Portman is an Academy Award winning film score composer -- this makes her music an excellent storyteller for opera. Illustrator Matt Kish has been enlisted to re-imagine The Little Prince in his very original style. We then animate his original illustrations and project onto the stage as part of the set design. It's immersive and very imaginative. The set is based on the idea of a treehouse. The Little Prince is about figuring out what's important in life. This is done by seeing with your heart and giving time to things and the people you love.
