    Last October, The Celebrity Series of Boston — the premier concert presenting organization state-wide, brought our crowd along for a sold-out Night Out. Well, we’re grateful to announce that our wonderful friends at the Celebrity Series are starting our 2018 off right with our first Night Out of the year.

    On January 26th at 8pm, we’ll gather in the magnificent Jordan Hall — true gem in this great city — to share the complete violin sonatas by Charles Ives, as told by violinist Stefan Jackiw and pianist Jeremy Denk. Jackiw is a home-grown talent, born in Boston only 32 years ago, but he’s already hailed as among the leading violinists in the world. Jeremy Denk is every bit his match - not just a world class pianist, but a thought-leader in the world of classical music, and a MacArthur Genius to boot.

    Charles Ives is among the most original composers in history and almost certainly the most influential American composer there has ever been. And what an American he was. Ives was so American he makes apple pie look like a Soviet Spy. These four sonatas in particular draw on melodies from American church hymns, patriotic songs, and marches.

    The brilliant mind of Jeremy Denk has prepared an introduction to these works to situate them in time and space, and he enlisted the five singers of Hudson Shad to perform various hymns and songs from which these pieces derived inspiration before playing the sonatas to make for a richer and deeper listening experience.

    Normally, tickets average $50 a pop BUT this is Groupmuse after all, and because the Celebrity Series just loves us, you can get yours for $20! But step lively, because the supply is limited and these things fly.
