In the young and bright life of Groupmuse Philly, our community has yet to taste one of the sweetest fruits from the Groupmuse tree: The Massivemuse. But on May 18th, we're fixing to change that.

A Massivemuse is a scaled up groupmuse that's outgrown the living room. Just like our living room dreams, we're cozying up on the floor, beer in hand, digging into some deep jams - but the scope and expanse of the evening is a manifestation of the scope and expanse of the community we're building.

For the occasion, we're calling on The Warp Trio -- our long-time collaborators who've Massivemuse'd on both coasts. They're the paragon of a modern ensemble -- a multi-racial, multi-genre piano trio, as at home with Mozart as they are with Sir Duke, and they write music that draws on influences as disparate as classical, jazz, hip hop, Indian Raga and more.

The first half has them each in the spotlight -- Bach's first cello suite - arguably the most beloved piece ever written, Ysaye's shattering and explosive solo Violin Sonata No. 3, Robert Schumann's fragrant and profound Arabesque for solo piano, and Schubert's positively religious Impromptu No. 3, also for solo piano.

Then we'll have a big fat hang for intermission in the Groupmuse Grand Style.

For the second half, the three forces of the Warp join for an original composition -- a new suite that'll serve as the centerpiece of their new album.

It's going down at the beautiful post-industrial Maas Space in Olde Kensington. Tickets are $20 (and $15 for supermusers) and it's BYOB so bring your favorite brews and let's get cozy!
