Groupmuse has a mission-commitment to Western Classical Music; it’s why it came into the world and what keeps it here. But when we leave the living room for a Groupmuse Night Out, we feel it’s an opportunity to explore the wider world of art music, and we don’t shy from straying beyond the Western Canon.

So when our dear friends at the Metropolitan Museum of Art invited us to join for a Silkroad Night Out, we naturally jumped at the opportunity. Chinese classical music is among the most ancient musical traditions in the world and thrives until this day. The Silkroad Project, originally founded by Yo-Yo Ma, celebrates it with depth, wisdom, vitality, and humanity.

This evening's ensemble will be led by the great Wu Man, master of the pipa, a Chinese lute that’s literally 20 centuries old. The pipa will be joined an oud, a sheng, percussion and more - for a full immersion into an ancient world of sounds and music so far removed from our own, and so undeniably resonant in its universal power.

The show is going down in the beautiful Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium - right in the heart of the Museum - and while tickets are $50 for the many, we’ve got a Groupmuse-exclusive discount for only $25. And! Tickets come with all day admission to the Museum. So make a day of it and we’ll see you there!
