D.C. in the summer is…. well…. hot. Lots of cities in the summer are particularly hot — it’s called the Urban Heat Island effect (and it can be substantially mitigated with more vegetation on roofs and more trees everywhere else). For much of the history of this season, folks have sought the cooler climes and country breezes of more rural regions.

For classical music seekers, there’s Verbier in the Swiss Alps, there’s Tanglewood in the Berkshires of Western Mass, and we in DC, we’ve got Wolf Trap. Located on *117 acres of national park land in Vienna, Virginia — it’s a refuge for those who seek a bit of distance from the city, but still crave the culture that makes a city deep. And next week, we’re invited on over for a most-glorious **Wolf Trap Night Out.

It’s Ariadne auf Naxos - an opera by a true master of the Late Romantic, Richard Strauss. It’s delicate but profound, it’s funny but overwhelming. And it’s less than three hours with intermission, so it’s manageably sized as operas go!

Tickets usually average $40 or more, but we’ve got a Groupmuse-exclusive stack for $20! A fully staged opera for a Jackson is quite a rarity but our supple of tickets is limited, so move now if you wanna join!
