Schnittke Cello Sonata No. 1
Shostakovich Piano Trio No. 2
Join us for an afternoon of terrifying Soviet-Russian works of Alfred Schnittke and Dmitri Shostakovich. We will be performing selections from Schnittke's film music and piano-banging Cello Sonata No. 1 in the first half. In the second half, we will be performing Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 2, written in 1944 amdist World War II. It was written as a memorial in part to his good friend Ivan Sollertinsky who had recently passed and in part as a result of the oppression he felt in the world that he mourned. Please bring a blanket/pillow/chair to make yourself comfortable.
