For every beloved concert hall masterpiece that survives the sand storm of time and finds safe passage through the centuries, untold numbers are lost - to floods, fires, changing tastes, poor archival management, bad luck.

The remarkable NYC-based presenter Music Before 1800 does the crucial work of finding gems lost to the years and making them sing — not just because this music is great, but also because it’s powerful to reflect just how vast and mysterious this literature really is. And I bring good news: MB1800 wants us to join for their season opener which features the great early music ensemble ACRONYM.

To be honest, listing off the luminaries of the program isn’t likely to be elucidating — this experienced listener/writer doesn’t recognize a single name. But all of the works featured come from the 1732 collection of Gustaf Düben, the last of his family to serve as conductor at the Swedish Court and a taste maker in his time.

Of the nearly 2000 works in the collection, ACRONYM has chosen a selection that’ll ring with vitality and excitement — and there’s a good chance that this’ll be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear this stuff. So be part of history!

Tickets for this evening typically average $40 — but we’ve got a nice stack for just $15! But supplies are limited, so make your move!
