The Boston Philharmonic Orchestra is back for their second installment of the season - and our love song continues, as they invite us back to the most glorious Sanders Theater at Harvard for another Night Out at the symphony!

As ever, the legendary and electrifying Benjamin Zander leads the band, and the evening starts with late romantic Danish visionary Carl Nielsen and his Helios Overture, an overwhelming and thrilling symphonic poem to nothing less than the power of the rising sun.

Next up is Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, probably the grandest and most sublime violin concerto ever written, and surely up there among Ludwig’s finest moments. Pastoral, melodic, soft, abundant — it offers a lovely contrast with the storminess that we often associate with this greatest of musical minds. Center stage will be virtuoso violinist Liza Fershtman, one of Holland’s most celebrated. And this’ll be her Boston debut!

The finale of the concert is Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances — it was the Russian master’s last major composition, and one of his most potent. It has all of the charged spirit of the Motherland that he carried with him everywhere, but with the mastery that can only be achieved after a lifetime’s devotion.

As always, Zander will use his gift of gab to lead us through the music so that we may receive it more deeply.

Tickets are typically $65, but it’s Groupmuse after all, so we’ve got an insanely discounted stack for $20. However, supplies are limited, so grab yours if you want in!

And have a great Night Out!
