FEATURING KAIROS DANCE THEATER

In a 2 hour length total production, you will experience a 50 minute documentary premiere screening followed by an innovative 30 minute dance premiere performance of Jennifer Higdon's Violin Concerto with soloist Ilana Zaks and the all female, handpicked orchestra, Kairos Dance Theater and female digital artist, Fen Rotstein. This will be followed by a 15 minute intermission. Following the production, there will be a 15 minute Q and A period with the entire team.

The Film: The 50 minute film documentary focuses on the empowerment of women in the classical music, electronic production, film and dance industry giving women around Boston a chance to display their impeccable talents. The film is about the “making of” the final performance with perspectives on gender disparity and career wisdom from the team and from interviewees. So far, interviews with the following the following have been completed: Toby Perlman and her husband Itzhak Perlman, President Andrea Kalyn, choreographer Twyla Tharp, cellist Alisa Weilerstein, conductor Marin Alsop, cellist Merry Peckham, violist Kim Kashkashian, BSO violist Cathy Basrak, Theater director Judy Braha, dancer and choreographer Annabella Lenzu and composer Jennifer Higdon. Interviews to be conducted this fall are with bassist Rachel Calin, violinists Mimi Rabson, Miriam Fried, Eden McAdam Somer and Hilary Hahn, conductors Lina Gonzalez and Erica Washburn, dancer and choreographer Mikhail Baryshnikov, composers Kati Agócs, Lera Auerbach and Jennifer Higdon, BSO horn player (and first female brass player in the BSO) Rachel Childers, bassist Rachel Calin, and Boston Ballet dancers Lia Cirio and Sage Humphries.
The meetings, rehearsals, editing, making of the digital scenery/3D projection up until the final dress rehearsal are in the film.

The Performance: The 30 minute dance premiere performance of the Higdon violin Concerto with original digital art and Kairos Dance Theater will follow the film screening. In the performance, NEC conductor Sally Yu lead an all female orchestra comprised of NEC students with myself as soloist with the Kairos Dance Theater, with digital artist, Fen Rotstein controlling the projection as the performance continues; the product of a year and a half of hard work.
